Laboratory Technician

At North York General Hospital, we are committed to excellence in patient care. As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in our team, ensuring the safe handling and processing of laboratory specimens. Your goal will be to perform laboratory procedures in accordance with departmental and divisional policies, including phlebotomy, ECG, and specimen processing. You will be knowledgeable in the safe handling and packaging of laboratory specimens, competent in the performance of ECG and blood collection, and have the ability to perform assigned tasks. You will demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and be able to communicate in written and oral English. You will provide excellent patient and family-driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, sort, and prepare specimens for testing and referral
  • Receive patients, staff, and visitors to the laboratory
  • Perform blood collection (venipunctures and capillary punctures) and ECG's
  • Enter information into the lab computer and generate reports and work lists
  • Handle and distribute reports, record sheets, and specimens

Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • OSMT/CSMLS Certification or equivalent
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset
