Spark Power is seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Technologist to join our team in Alberta. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for performing programming, testing, and verification of protection and control devices in the field.
Key Responsibilities- Electrical Systems Maintenance: Inspect, test, operate, and troubleshoot AC and DC control and protection wiring schematics.
- Device Programming: Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D, and ABB.
- Power Distribution Equipment Maintenance: Maintain or commission power distribution equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches, and instrument transformers.
- Industry Standards Compliance: Be familiar with industry-specific codes and standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).
- Travel and Field Work: Ability and willingness to travel 70-80% of the time for out-of-town commissioning or maintenance projects.
- Documentation and Reporting: Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate the day-to-day functions on a job-by-job basis, including compliance with all health and safety standards and regulations, availability of necessary resources, resolving conflicts, and timely and accurate submission of paperwork.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in P&C.
- Education: 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (e.g., from NAIT or SAIT) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree.
- Licenses: Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Leadership: Ability to provide technical leadership.
