About the Role

Lightmatter is a cutting-edge technology company that specializes in building chips for extreme-scale artificial intelligence computing clusters. We're seeking a highly skilled Photonics Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our innovative products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design high-performance photonics devices suitable for high-volume manufacturing, leveraging your expertise in photonic device physics and experience with Lumerical, Tidy3D, or equivalent tools.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Actively collaborate across disciplines with analog, digital, and physical design teams to layout photonic devices for key test and product tape outs.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Engage in problem-solving and contribute novel architectural ideas to drive innovation in photonic systems.
  • Characterization and Validation: Work with the photonics test team to define requirements for device characterization, debug, and validation, and analyze characterization data to ensure the device/system meets specifications.
Requirements
  • PhD in EECS, Physics, or related discipline with 3 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of photonic device physics.
  • Demonstrated track record of design integrated silicon photonics components using Lumerical, Tidy3D, or equivalent.
  • Experience with code-based GDS creation, such as GDS Factory or similar.
  • Experience with large-scale layout, testing, and characterization of photonic devices.
  • Experience with PDK and Cadence environments a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions.
  • Can-do, positive attitude.
  • Strong publication record in the photonics field a plus.
