Design and Develop Revolutionary Photonic Systems

At Lightmatter, we're pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence computing clusters with our cutting-edge chips. We're seeking a talented Photonics Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of innovative photonic systems.

In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, building, and testing high-performance photonic devices suitable for high-volume manufacturing. You'll collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to layout photonic devices, work with the photonics test team to define requirements for device characterization, and analyze characterization data to ensure the device/system meets specifications.

We're looking for a candidate with a strong background in EECS, Physics, or a related discipline, and experience with photonic device physics, Lumerical, Tidy3D, or equivalent. If you have a passion for innovation, problem-solving, and contributing to groundbreaking challenges, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop high-performance photonic devices
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to layout photonic devices
  • Work with the photonics test team to define requirements for device characterization
  • Analyze characterization data to ensure device/system meets specifications
  • Engage in problem-solving and contribute novel architectural ideas
Requirements:
  • PhD in EECS, Physics, or related discipline with 3 years of experience
  • Strong background in photonic device physics
  • Experience with Lumerical, Tidy3D, or equivalent
  • Experience with code-based GDS creation
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
