Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Coordinator to support our research team in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences at The University of British Columbia. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with community partners to enhance older adults' experiences and participation in research that supports aging-in-place.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the research team in the management of grant applications and the preparation of research-related documents and reports.
  • Develop and coordinate strategic work plans, and establish priorities and timelines for multiple research projects.
  • Ensure that project files are appropriately set up and maintained.
  • Provide advice on identification and preparation of major collaborative grant proposals, and assist in the development of research grants, grant budgets, and budget justifications.
  • Collaborate with the research team in the development of strategic research outputs related to the research projects.
  • Contribute to ethics applications, data collection and analysis plans, and develop detailed protocols for data collection and analysis.
  • Ensure that data is appropriately archived and configured to ensure it can be merged.
  • Contribute to and lead data collection activities, and monitor workflow and data collection to ensure high-quality data collection, tracking, and management.
  • Extract and conduct statistical analysis, and prepare data summaries.
  • Ensure ethical standards of research are followed, monitored, and maintained.
  • Oversee literature review processes performed by research assistants, and contribute to scientific and public written documentation for peer review and knowledge translation.
  • Develop procedures to support research protocols for the research team, and prepare, compose, edit, and proof grants, reports, and other documents for submission.
  • Work collaboratively with the research team and partners to facilitate implementation of the project and support meeting the objectives of the research project.
  • Respond to inquiries from research participants related to ongoing research, and contribute to coordination and actively participate in project team meetings.
  • Assist with building community relations to support ongoing activities and foster new opportunities, and design and facilitate processes for communication and collaboration to support the research team, research assistants, and study sites.
  • Ensure timely notification of the Principal Investigator and team of issues or problems, and oversee and manage all work completed by the research assistants.
  • Organize and lead orientation and training sessions for research assistants in relation to data collection, data management, data analysis, and preparation of reports.
  • Assist with hiring of research assistants, writing job descriptions, posting positions, screening applicants, participating in candidate selection, facilitating appointments, and conducting performance appraisals.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, with a minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of thematic analysis for interview and focus groups.
  • Statistical analysis abilities in parametric, non-parametric, and linear mixed effects.
  • Project management experience, successfully managing multi-phase and method research projects through to completion.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Ability to synthesize literature and data into scientific documents for peer review and/or public consumption.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise, and train research staff.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and innovative thinking.
  • Computer and data analysis skills, including Word processing, EXCEL, Reference Manager or RefWorks, SPSS, and Fluid Surveys.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, to multi-task, and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience using and/or adapting to various lab management software.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check and Human ethics approval documentation experience.
  • Training/prior experience with Indigenous communities and concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel with a valid driver's license (asset).
