Union Labour Relations Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Union Labour Relations Officer to join our team at the Canadian Association of Labour Media. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in promoting and protecting the rights of workers across Alberta.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of labour relations, human rights, workers' compensation, and health and safety. They will be able to approach interactions with a strong emotional intelligence and an interest-based approach. Additionally, they will possess strong time-management, organization, and communication skills, with the ability to take direction, set goals, and maintain attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will have experience with collective bargaining, including conducting proposals, negotiations, ratification meetings, and votes. They will also be a community leader with a strong commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. A college or university degree in political science, labour studies, or a related field, or 10 years of related experience, is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement labour relations strategies to promote and protect the rights of workers
  • Conduct collective bargaining negotiations and represent the union in labour disputes
  • Provide guidance and support to members on labour-related issues
  • Collaborate with other union representatives to achieve common goals
  • Stay up-to-date with labour laws and regulations, and provide training and education to members
Requirements
  • Practical understanding and experience in dealing with labour relations, human rights, workers' compensation, and health and safety
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to approach interactions from an interest-based approach
  • Strong time-management, organization, and communication skills
  • Experience with collective bargaining, including conducting proposals, negotiations, ratification meetings, and votes
  • College or university degree in political science, labour studies, or a related field, or 10 years of related experience
