Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Analyst to join our team at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. As a key member of our Legislative Affairs team, you will play a critical role in shaping our policy agenda and advocating for the interests of small business owners across Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy Development: Conduct research and analysis on public policy issues affecting small business, with a focus on tax policy, public finances, regulatory policy, labor and social policy.
  • Communications: Prepare written communications, including reports, briefs, and presentations, to reflect research results and CFIB positions.
  • Lobbying and Advocacy: Represent CFIB in lobbying efforts and at various government and external meetings.
  • Media Relations: Act as a media spokesperson when necessary, ensuring CFIB policy positions and the voices of small businesses are heard.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on public policy issues of relevance to small business.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues across Canada to develop and contribute to the development of internal and external communications to CFIB members and the media.
Requirements
  • Superior Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Policy Experience: Proven ability to write news releases, reports, briefs, and prepare complex material for presentations to employees, members, media, and government.
  • Research and Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and research skills to help shape CFIB's Legislative Affairs agenda.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of the small business sector and its role in the Canadian economy, as well as an interest in government relations and public policy.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in word processing, spreadsheets, and graphic packages.
  • Collaboration and Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with cross-functional colleagues and adapt to shifting deadlines.
