Supportive Educational Assistant II

Job Summary

Prairie South School Division No. 210 is seeking a qualified Educational Assistant II to support students with diverse needs and/or high behavioural needs in a casual capacity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care assistance to students, including dressing, undressing, eating, toileting, personal hygiene, food preparation, and feeding, as needed.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including restraining students who have become violent towards staff/students, if necessary.
  • Administer non-invasive para-medical functions, such as stoma care, seizure care, and in-lying catheterization care, under the direction of parents, guardians, and medical personnel.
  • Utilize adaptive technology, adaptive devices, and augmentative communication devices, as directed by Speech Language Pathologists or other professional staff.
  • Attend to the physiotherapeutic needs of students, including the use of walkers, three-wheel bicycles, standing frames, and roll seats.
  • Operate wheelchair mobility management programs, as outlined by Occupational Therapists.
  • Assist and supervise life skills activities within the school setting, including cook programs.
  • Possess the ability to handle physically challenging tasks.
  • May be required to transport students using a personal vehicle.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a Grade 12 diploma from a recognized educational institution, or General Educational Development (GED).
  • A minimum of one (1) year post-secondary training related to student needs, such as Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Development, Youth Worker, or Rehabilitation Worker, from a recognized educational institution.
  • NVCI and TLR training, if required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in providing direct personal care.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • The ability to perform heavy work, exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly, to lift students and/or move objects.
Compensation

In accordance with the current CUPE Local 5512 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the hourly wage range is $22.16 to $27.28.
