Chief Legal Counsel

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Legal Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will provide strategic legal advice and guidance to support the organization's mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to the executive team and Board of Directors on a wide range of matters, including corporate governance, risk management, and compliance.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive legal strategy to support the organization's operations and achieve its conservation goals.
  • Manage complex legal files and relationships with external counsel, Indigenous communities, and government partners.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and contract templates to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide training and support to internal teams on legal matters and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the bar of at least one province or territory.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house, with expertise in real estate law, conservation agreements, and commercial tenancies.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
