Job Title: Educational Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at the Upper Canada District School Board.

About the Role:

The Educational Assistant will provide support to students with exceptional needs within the school, working under the direction and supervision of the Principal and in consultation with the Learning Resource Teacher (LRT) and classroom teacher.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the instruction of individual and/or groups of students in an academic and/or integrated class environment
  • Oversee special education students and implement special education programs related to behaviour, communication, intellectual or physical needs, where required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of specific social/emotional and physical needs of students with learning disabilities, behavioural challenges, developmental disabilities, or physical challenges
Qualifications and Experience:

Incumbents must possess a secondary school diploma and two year or three year Community College Diploma in one of the following: Child & Youth Worker, Registered Early Childhood Educator, Behavioural Science Technician, Educational Assistant, Developmental Services Worker or Social Service Worker, Registered Nurse, Registered Nursing Assistant or Registered Practical Nurse. Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training/certification is an asset.

UCDSB requires your current and two most recent direct supervisors. If your experience is in a day-to-day occasional capacity, ensure that you list the length of time that you worked for that Supervisor and whether the assignment was casual day-to-day or in a long-term occasional capacity.

Selection Process:

Applicants selected for an interview will be invited to attend a virtual live interview via Microsoft Teams. Interviews typically include a panel of two (2) Hiring Managers. The UCDSB selection process includes a review of required qualifications, interview and assessment process, and reference checks. All employment offers are conditional on candidates providing a valid criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
