We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Victim Support Specialist to join our team at Ishtar Women's Resource Society.

About the Role:

The Victim Support Specialist will provide essential services, practical assistance, information, and referrals to clients who have been victims of power-based crimes. This role involves direct program services, including safety planning, risk assessment, court orientation, and accompaniment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of harm reduction, intersectional feminist analysis, and anti-oppressive practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and information to clients on dynamics of abuse, victim's rights, and justice system processes.
  • Assist with Crime Victim Assistance Applications and Victim Impact Statements.
  • Offer emotional and practical support to clients through peer support techniques and psychoeducational groups.
  • Liaise with crown counsel and police on behalf of clients.
  • Collaborate with other community service providers to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
  • Participate in public education initiatives to raise awareness about physical or sexual assault and abuse.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ensure confidentiality and maintain a positive, inclusive work environment.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in a related human/social service field.
  • 2 years of direct experience or relevant experience/education.
  • First Aid Certificate with St Johns, Red Cross, or affiliate.
  • An intersectional feminist perspective, empathetic nature, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is an asset.

Estimated Salary: $31.56-$33.49 per hour, based on 21 hours per week, Monday-Friday during business hours until March 2025, with potential for additional hours thereafter.
