Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Capital Projects Director to join our team at Thompson Rivers University. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and approval of Capital Projects, ensuring timely, on-budget, and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage construction and renovation projects from beginning to end, including identifying requirements, developing project scope, and leading internal project boards.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, analyze financial status, and advise senior leadership on project status and potential problems.
  • Oversee all construction activities, progress, issues, and documentation related to Capital projects.
  • Design and space planning from initial concepts to final installation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and local building codes.
  • Manage transfer of equipment documentation to parties with responsibility for ongoing maintenance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, architecture, or construction management, or equivalent.
  • 7-10 years of experience managing multiple large projects in facilities management, general contracting, building renovation, and architecture/engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability applying the principles of design and construction project management.
  • Solid understanding of construction practices and methods, building trades, and associated language.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of AVED's capital asset reference guide and capital asset management framework.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Experience in a higher education work environment.
  • Knowledge of current project management and project delivery methodologies.
  • Strong skills in verbal, written, and electronic communications.
