Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician - Microbiology to join our food laboratory in Saint-Laurent, QC.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide general lab support and perform basic testing procedures for food samples.
  • Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and assist with media preparation and decontamination.
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) when conducting any laboratory work or procedure.
  • Prioritize daily workload based on sample and client requirement and identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling.
  • Identify and communicate non-conformances to Supervisor and maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
  • Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
  • Keep work area clean, neat and organized and perform all other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • College diploma in Science and experience in a laboratory is an asset.
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team and are detail orientated and have record keeping skills.
  • Learn quickly and are able to perform repetitive tasks and adapt well to a changing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and comfortable with repetitive tasks and capacity to work on your feet for long hours.

Working Conditions:

  • Work place: 7150 rue Frederick Banting, Ville Saint-Laurent, Montreal.
  • 6 months contract with possibility of transitioning to a permanent position.
  • Work schedule: evening shift, Monday to Friday 2PM-10PM with needs to be available for overtime 1-2h/day and every second Saturday.
  • Status: Full time, 37.5h/week.
