Job Summary:

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in the production of components from donations received from blood donors and in the distribution of these and other related products to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and process orders for blood, blood components, and fractionation products
  • Select, issue, dispatch, and pack products according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Prepare shipments of units to the fractionation plant
  • Operate computer terminals and other automated equipment
  • Maintain adequate stock of supplies and prepare weekly supply orders
  • Perform maintenance of equipment
  • End label and store products
  • Observe laboratory hygiene and safety regulations and precautions
  • Perform other department-related tasks and duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • One year of laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in a regulated, manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including legible handwriting
  • Superior multi-tasking skills required
  • Ability to work with others effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions precisely
  • Detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
  • Manual dexterity
