At the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, we are committed to supporting Indigenous families and youth in their interactions with the family, child protection, and youth court systems. As a culturally sensitive family support specialist, you will play a critical role in helping these individuals understand their options, responsibilities, and rights within the court system.

About the Role

This is a full-time vacancy that requires a Community College diploma, University degree or equivalent in Social Services and/or a minimum of 5 years' experience in a social or justice services environment. A strong understanding of Indigenous culture and history, particularly in relation to family violence, child welfare, incarceration, trauma, engagement, and community outreach, is essential. Knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • To provide support and guidance to Indigenous families and youth in navigating the family, child protection, and youth court systems
  • To assist individuals in understanding their options, responsibilities, and rights within the court system
  • To work collaboratively with community organizations and service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to supporting Indigenous families and youth
Requirements
  • A Community College diploma, University degree or equivalent in Social Services and/or a minimum of 5 years' experience in a social or justice services environment
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, incarceration, trauma, engagement, and community outreach
  • Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Estimated Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 per year
