Position Overview

The Mathematics Instructional Coordinator is responsible for delivering guidance, assessment, and oversight of students in mathematics support sessions. This includes the preparation of educational resources, aligned with the curriculum approved by the Mathematics department. The role involves addressing student inquiries in a collaborative learning environment while managing the Mathematics Lab and its instructional materials. The Coordinator is committed to providing outstanding service to all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Instructional Support:
    • Facilitates learning by offering personalized assistance to students and faculty, ensuring successful educational outcomes in Mathematics.
    • Provides ongoing support for students enrolled in various Mathematics courses, including clarifying concepts, answering queries, demonstrating problem-solving techniques, and offering encouragement.
    • Advises students on course selections and prerequisites.
    • Organizes and leads workshops for students, covering topics such as calculator usage and course reviews.
    • Evaluates and recommends Mathematics tutorial software to faculty.
    • Instructs students on safety protocols and supervises compliance within the lab environment.
  2. Coordination of Lab Activities:
    • Oversees the Math Lab to ensure it meets course objectives as per the approved curriculum.
    • Provides drop-in support to students, helping them enhance their understanding of Mathematics across all departmental courses.
    • Recommends and proposes new curricular activities for the Math Lab.
    • Designs and implements innovative lab activities for student engagement.
    • Prepares educational materials, including posters and review sheets, subject to faculty approval.
    • Maintains and updates archives of past exams, solution sets, and supplementary materials.
    • Manages student access to calculators, computers, and textbooks, ensuring all equipment is functional.
  3. Tutorial Instruction:
    • Conducts tutorial sessions for college-level Mathematics courses.
    • Demonstrates the effective use of graphing and mathematics software.
    • Develops strategies to enhance student learning experiences.
    • Arranges for the printing of tutorial materials.
    • Offers additional support to students outside of scheduled tutorial times.
    • Provides feedback on tutorial curriculum design to faculty.
  4. Evaluation of Student Performance:
    • Assesses quizzes and assignments related to tutorial requirements.
    • Assigns final grades for tutorial participation.
    • Keeps accurate records of tutorial grades.
  5. Additional Duties:
    • Maintains the Math Lab environment.
    • Develops and analyzes statistics related to Math Lab activities.
    • Informs new students about available Mathematics Lab resources.
    • Conducts evaluations of faculty as necessary.
    • Supervises math assessments when required.
    • Participates in the revision of tutorial materials and attends departmental meetings.
    • Stays updated on developments in Mathematics education.
    • Effectively manages multiple student inquiries while prioritizing tasks.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field from an accredited institution; graduate-level study is preferred.
  • A minimum of four months of experience teaching college-level Mathematics.
  • Proficient in current mathematics software and graphing technologies.
  • Experience in public speaking and preparing educational materials for mathematics labs.
  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge in post-secondary Mathematics education and effectively address a wide range of student inquiries.
  • Proven skills in adapting explanations to meet diverse learning needs and communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
