About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to our patients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. This will include compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, and working with automation systems.

Additionally, the Registered Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for:

  • Preparing chemotherapy doses
  • Distributing narcotics
  • Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A graduate degree from an accredited pharmacy technician program
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP)

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician)
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets
