About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Distribution Systems Technologist to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Capacity Planning: Prepare capital plans for distribution assets, including transmission pressure laterals, stations, and distribution piping, by obtaining long-term demand forecasts, allocating gas load growth to areas, and identifying system capacity shortfalls.
  • Hydraulic Analysis: Perform hydraulic analyses to confirm distribution pipe sizing for Main Construction Orders and Service Header Orders, and to determine system improvement requirements for Load Information Memos.
  • Model Development: Create, update, and verify distribution models using steady state analyses and review models with Operations personnel.
  • Client Support: Provide professional services to internal clients by performing hydraulic analyses to determine the sizing of customer piping and the feasibility of proposed operational procedures.
  • Collaboration: Participate in annual preview of winter operations by performing hydraulic analyses to confirm operability of current distribution assets and level of service to interruptible customers.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of an Applied Sciences Technologist and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) recognized post-secondary technologist diploma program in gas and petroleum, civil, mechanical, or related technology.
  • Certification: Certified at the technologist level by the Applied Sciences Technologist and Technicians of British Columbia.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years directly related work experience in System Capacity Planning.
  • Skills: Full understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics properties and behaviors of natural gas and other related organic hydrocarbon products, as well as strong computer skills in applications used in the department.
