Job Title: Healthcare Assistant Instructor

At ABM College, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Healthcare Assistant Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and training to our students.

Job Summary:

The Healthcare Assistant Instructor will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in the Healthcare Assistant Diploma Program. This includes delivering instruction, evaluating student performance, and enhancing the program through industry connections.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teaching and Instruction: Deliver instruction that meets course competencies and program objectives.
  • Evaluation and Assessment: Evaluate student performance in a timely manner.
  • Program Enhancement: Enhance the program by leveraging industry contacts for the benefit of students' practical training and employment.
  • Clinical Skills Training: As a Clinical Instructor, you will be responsible for taking students on a Multi-Level/complex Care Practicum and teaching clinical skills to students.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current Registration: Current unrestricted full registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Teaching Experience: Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners, such as completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education, or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations.
  • Nursing Experience: Two or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience with relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members, and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings.
  • Cultural Safety Training: Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility.
  • Healthcare Assistant Practice: Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course available on the LearningHub as part of their orientation/onboarding.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Nursing Work Experience: Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs and experience or orientation in-home support and multi-level/complex care.
  • Industry Skills: Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction, including ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Communication Skills: Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate and inspire students, work cooperatively with other instructors and staff, and consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of students.
Work Environment:

This is a full-time, part-time, permanent, or casual position with a flexible schedule. The work location is in-person.
