Job Summary

Outright Consulting is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Distribution Systems Design Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing complex underground and overhead infrastructure projects for utility companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage all aspects of assigned underground and overhead distribution rehab projects, utilizing industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and ProjectWise.
  • Ensure compliance with Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and other applicable electrical standards during the design process.
  • Consider all applicable standards when designing, including cable size, material, tension, rated voltage, underground duct banks, cable chambers, transformer size and type, switches or switchgears, hydro poles, and other infrastructure.
  • Design and draft comprehensive drawings, including primary schematic, secondary schematic, cable and duct layout, and overhead plans.
  • Design underground structures, taking into account existing underground utilities and engineering designs.
  • Liaise with internal and external parties to ensure compliance requirements are met and approvals are attained for each phase of the project.
  • Conduct site reviews and inspections to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Provide field support to resolve any arising issues in preliminary design stages.
  • Liaise with clients to support successful delivery of multiple capital projects.
  • Perform various administrative tasks to support the engineering and design process.

Requirements

  • A University Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
  • P. Eng certification is a must.
  • 5 years of experience designing underground and overhead distribution systems.
  • Ability to design and draft.
  • Proficient with industry-standard software, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and ProjectWise.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Valid class 'G' license.
