We are seeking an experienced Legal Services Assistant to join our team and provide administrative support to the Legal Services Department.

The Opportunity

The Legal Services Department provides timely and comprehensive legal advice to City Council, the CAO, and City staff. The department also provides a full range of legal services to the Corporation, its boards, and agencies. As a Legal Services Assistant, you will be responsible for providing a complete range of clerical services and customer services to the Department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform confidential and non-confidential duties and responsibilities associated with administration and customer service.
  • Provide information management and privacy services.
  • Assist with payroll and financial duties.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure the consistent delivery of Departmental clerical support services.

Requirements

  • One year College Certificate in Office Administration or related discipline.
  • Two years of experience performing duties related to the above-mentioned major responsibilities.
  • General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Employment Standards Act (ESA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
  • General knowledge of municipal, regional, provincial, and federal government services, programs, and initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of customer service and public relations principles, standards, and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of administrative, clerical, and payroll processes and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of records management practices, procurement practices, and general office equipment operation.
  • Availability to accommodate deadlines or peak period workloads that may extend beyond designated normal workday hours or normal hours per week.
