Job Summary

The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Chief Legislative Crown Counsel in the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership to the Legislative Drafting Branch
  • Lead a team of lawyers and support staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful delivery of legislative drafting services
  • Collaborate with the Cabinet Committee on Government Operations and the Red-Tape Reduction Committee of Cabinet to provide advice on statutory interpretation and legislative drafting
  • Work closely with the Government House Business and Research Office and the Legislative Assembly's Law Clerk to ensure the effective delivery of legislative services
  • Exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy in working with colleagues and external contacts
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior government officials and stakeholders
Requirements
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan
  • At least 10 years of experience in legislative drafting, with a strong understanding of statutory interpretation, administrative law, Parliamentary procedure, and Public Sector governance
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
