Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Registry Operations Counsel to provide legal and policy support to our registries. This role plays a critical part in managing risk and ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and common law. The successful candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, strong legal and analytical abilities, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day operational legal advice and guidance to registry employees and examiners.
- Analyze escalated issues to ensure documents submitted for registration comply with governing law and policies.
- Effectively communicate with front-line registry staff, external customers, and regulatory officials.
- Identify issues requiring policy or legislative changes and make recommendations to address risks and reduce liability.
- Provide legal and regulatory perspectives on strategy, development, and process aspects of ISC registry-related projects and initiatives.
- Review complex matters and respond to external clients on registry decisions and policies.
- Collaborate with regulatory officials to negotiate and influence decision-making regarding legislative and regulatory policy adjustments.
- Draft and provide authorizations, approvals, consents, releases, and other legal documentation as required.
Requirements:
- Membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan or eligibility for membership.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in policy interpretation and application, or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience in areas relevant to ISC's registries, such as Surveys/Geomatics, Land Registry, Personal Property Registry, and Corporate Registry.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, strong legal and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, as well as the ability to keep abreast of trends and developments in the field.
