Job Description

Calian Group Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electronics Instructor to join our team of professionals in the field of Aerospace Telecommunication and Information Systems Technician (ATIS Tech) training at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE) in Kingston.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver effective learning instructional materials as specified in CFITES volume 5, or equivalent, including:
  • Creating engaging and interactive training content to meet the needs of students;
  • Providing input and consultation to Learning Development personnel on course development and delivery;
  • Preparing work plans, schedules, and progress reports summarizing work completed to date, planned work, and identifying any problems, risks, or impediments to successful task completion;
  • Developing and maintaining proficiency and currency with the knowledge, skills, and competencies specified in Appendix 2 to Annex A to provide detailed explanations to students on the intended use, function, and underlying technology for the specific course;
  • Identifying background content, including source material and reference items, such as books, periodicals, CD/DVDs, and online media that will contribute to the development of new and enhanced course content;
  • Providing technical advice and guidance, including identifying possible exercise scenarios, providing recommendations for knowledge tests, and defining, configuring, and testing network infrastructure required to conduct exercises;
  • Developing or revising lesson plans, instructional material, and training aids;
  • Developing or revising courseware based on input from the Project Authority;
  • Delivering the training in accordance with the course Lesson Plan, using appropriate Adult Education techniques;
  • Setting up the classroom prior to the start of the scheduled start time;
  • Providing administrative briefing to participants at the beginning of the course outlining location of fire exits, washrooms, restaurant facilities, lunchroom area, and course outline;
  • Distributing attendance list to participants for their signature;
  • Evaluating tests and/or assignments;
  • Setting up the online environment in accordance with the training plan;
  • Conducting or assisting with lab and/or practical demonstrations which may be held indoors or outdoors;
  • Providing input to Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) completion, validation, maintenance, and revision;
  • Providing feedback and recommendations to the Project Authority as part of the lessons learned process, including recommending changes to course curriculum, exam questions, or exam format;
  • Deliveringables may include but are not limited to diagrams, reports, and documents dealing with the related subject matter content, Course Feedback Report, and related documents.
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of electronics and telecommunications principles and practices;
  • Experience with instructional design and delivery, including adult education techniques;
  • Ability to develop and deliver training content in a variety of formats, including classroom and online;
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in software applications such as Visio, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide input and consultation to Learning Development personnel;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide clear and concise instructions to students;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion;
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements, including the ability to adjust to new technologies and procedures.
Education and Experience
  • A High School graduation diploma or certificate;
  • A minimum of 7 years of related employment experience in the identified category;
  • A post-secondary certificate or diploma in Instruction or Education, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Instructing in the identified category;
  • A college diploma or university degree in any field;
  • A minimum of 6 years of related employment experience in the identified category;
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in Instructing in the identified category;
  • Achieved the rank of Sergeant or Warrant Officer;
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Instructing in the identified category.
