Procon Mining and Tunnelling Ltd. is a leading mine development contractor in North America, specializing in underground mine development, contract mining, and civil tunneling. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Long-Hole Blaster.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for loading and detonating explosives to produce desired blasting patterns and rock fragmentation in underground mines. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires a strong understanding of blasting procedures and a commitment to ensuring a safe working environment.
Responsibilities:- Follow all policies and procedures at the mine site
- Must be prepared to adhere to all legislated regulations and company Health & Safety policies and perform the role safely and ensure Health & Safety is the number one priority
- Good comprehension when reading information and/or receiving verbal instructions as required to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Able to sequence a blast using electric caps and troubleshoot as required
- Load and detonate explosives to produce desired blasting patterns and rock fragmentation in underground mines (electric caps)
- Perform duties required to ensure safety and to support the mining advance, such as scaling loose rock from walls and roof, extending and installing air and water pipes.
- Maintain and inspect explosive magazine & emulsion tank storage areas underground
- Operate various pieces of mine equipment for transportation and to assist in services work that may be required for the blasting area
- Minimum 5 years working full-time in an underground mine environment
- Experience in hard rock mining and blasting procedures
- BC Blasting Certification
- Experience with timing and firing of electric caps
- Experience working with a variety of crews and adapts well to working with others
- Ability to work within a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift and physically handle material up to 50lbs
- Valid Drivers Licence
- Dependable and able to commit to a 3 week on / 3 week off rotation in a remote location
- Positive attitude and enjoys being a proactive member of a high performing team
- Preference will be given to those who reside in Northern BC, and we encourage candidates identifying as indigenous decent to apply
