Job Title: OTR Tire Technician

Join Kal Tire, a leading provider of mining tire service and supply, as an OTR Tire Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for performing tire service on customer equipment, assisting mine maintenance staff, and conducting maintenance on tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform tire service on customer equipment, adhering to Kal Tire's standards.
  • Assist mine maintenance staff as required, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Conduct regular maintenance on tools and equipment, promoting efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain accurate tire inspection and maintenance records.
  • Respond to after-hours call-outs, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, driving excellence in everything we do.
Operational / Technical:
  • Dismount and mount tires for various vehicles, adhering to load requirements.
  • Ensure safe and efficient tire mounting, minimizing downtime.
  • Perform equipment checks and calibrations, maintaining optimal performance.
  • Install and remove wheels from diverse vehicles, showcasing adaptability.
  • Balance light vehicle tire and rim assemblies, ensuring precision.
  • Repair and maintain tires and tubes, resolving issues efficiently.
  • Conduct inspections, determining wheel component suitability for continued service.
  • Operate heavy-duty tire servicing equipment and tools, demonstrating expertise.
  • Complete required reporting and logging, maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment, promoting a positive work culture.
  • Assist in managing inventory for operational requirements, optimizing efficiency.
Health, Safety & Environment:
  • Comply with safety regulations and requirements, prioritizing team and equipment safety.
  • Maintain hygiene standards in the facility, promoting a healthy work environment.
  • Report hazards, unsafe work conditions, and behaviors to supervisors, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Document incidents and injuries according to procedures, fostering a culture of transparency.
  • Collaborate with the site safety representative to resolve safety issues, driving continuous improvement.
  • Use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Perform vehicle pre-start checks, ensuring equipment readiness.
  • Participate in regular meetings and inspections, promoting safety and documenting findings.
  • Confirm incident notices and other safety information, staying informed.
  • Comply with site emergency evacuation procedures, prioritizing team safety.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Adhere to safety standards, ensuring incident-free operations.
  • Use tire fitting tools and equipment correctly and safely.
  • Repair tires efficiently, meeting customer needs.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the Kal Tire Shop, demonstrating teamwork.
Work Experience:
  • At least two years of related experience, with direct experience as a tire fitter preferred.
  • OTR service training and certifications desired, with basic tire fitting skills preferred.
  • Experience operating and maintaining tire manipulators, forklifts, and service trucks.
  • Experience working in an environment with strong safety procedures, a must.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to physically perform duties safely, with a focus on teamwork.
  • Able to obtain and maintain required licenses and certificates for mine site work.
  • Ability to perform mechanically related tasks, with a focus on precision.
  • Able to follow safety procedures and work in a safe manner, prioritizing team safety.
  • Ability to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment, as part of a team.
  • Self-starter with problem-solving skills, able to work independently and attend training sessions.
  • Understanding of tire failure causes and analysis, with a focus on prevention.
  • Good communication and literacy skills, with the ability to express themselves effectively.
  • Good numeracy skills, with the ability to perform calculations accurately.
Education:
  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent, with additional certification and training preferred.
Special Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license, with the ability to comply with relevant insurance policies.
