About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Counsel to join our team in Canadian Disputes. As a key member of our litigation group, you will be responsible for providing strategic and tactical advice on securities litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage external counsel in all aspects of litigation at various levels of court in Ontario and other provinces, developing and implementing strategies for resolution.
  • Identify key legal risks and mitigation strategies, ensuring awareness among relevant stakeholders and the TD Legal team.
  • Provide best-in-class litigation advice integrated with business strategies and consistent with enterprise-wide risk policy.
  • Offer advice on contractual interpretation and drafting, pre-litigation dispute resolution, and litigation risk analysis to colleagues and business partners.
  • Lead privileged internal investigations and provide legal guidance on privilege and best practices.
  • Maintain regular oral and written reporting to senior members of the Litigation Department and control groups, business executives, and risk committees.
  • Deliver training and presentations on best practices, law developments, and emerging risk areas to business and legal partners.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and solutions to mitigate risk and achieve business priorities.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships through effective communication and information sharing with internal and external business partners.

Requirements

  • A Law degree from an accredited law school and qualification to practice law in Ontario.
  • At least 7 years of post-call litigation experience with a solid background in securities litigation.
  • Experience litigating complex securities matters.
  • Advanced problem-solving, creativity, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical and collaboration skills.
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and ability to learn new technologies.
