Substance Abuse Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Therapist to join our team at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. In this role, you will be responsible for providing specialized addiction services to patients in need.
Key Responsibilities:- Clinical Practice: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' addiction-related needs, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide evidence-based counseling interventions.
- Collaboration and Referral: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to ensure seamless care coordination and referrals to community resources.
- Education and Support: Deliver health education and support groups, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their care.
- Crisis Intervention: Utilize crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate situations and promote patient safety.
- A minimum Grade 12 education with post-secondary training in a related field, such as the Humanities.
- Basic CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Certification as an Addictions Counselor with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (ICADC) or equivalent considered an asset.
- Training in the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAINS Assessment) is an asset.
- Demonstrated non-judgmental attitude towards clients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to observe clients and record information accurately.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving and time management skills, ensuring timely completion of tasks and effective care coordination. A competitive salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
