Critical Care Nurse

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sechelt Hospital. As a critical care nurse, you will provide emergency nursing care to clients/patients of all ages presenting with a wide variety of symptoms within an uncontrolled environment. You will also care for critically ill patients/clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery.

About the Hospital
Sechelt Hospital is a 46-bed acute care facility located in Sechelt, British Columbia. We provide a full range of services to the community, including emergency care, renal program – community dialysis units, mental health and substance use services, surgical services, birthing for low-risk pregnancies, and imaging services. As a critical care nurse at Sechelt Hospital, you will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology, as well as a range of educational and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). You must also have completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or completion of a recognized advanced program in intensive care or emergency care nursing, or two (2) years' recent, related experience. You must have broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family-centered care model, as well as broad knowledge of BCCNM's standards for nursing practice. You must also have demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated client group, and demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities. You must have demonstrated ability in interviewing and assessment skills, and demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care, and to respond appropriately. You must have demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, and demonstrated ability in the management of trauma in an emergency setting. You must have demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations, and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. You must have demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing, and demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of outside agencies. You must have demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families based on their priorities, and demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction. You must have demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position, and demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area. You must have demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area, and demonstrated skill in CPR techniques. You must have skill in techniques appropriate to critical care nursing, and basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system. You must have ability to operate related equipment, and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
