Produce Department Manager

At Calgary Co-op, we are seeking a highly skilled Produce Department Manager to join our team. As a key member of our co-operative, you will be responsible for the overall operations of the Produce department, focusing on improving customer service, program execution, and company profitability.
The successful candidate will be partnered with an experienced Produce Manager who will provide practical training and leadership skills needed to manage the overall operations of the Produce department. During the Management Development training program, you will learn various facets about the commodity, including scheduling, appraisals, budgeting, financial information, and reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Produce Department in accordance with company policies, procedures, programs, merchandising standards, and overall expectations.
- Provide feedback to Centre Manager/Assistant Centre Manager and Produce Operations Director regarding recommendations for continued improvement of operations.
- Demonstrate and provide leadership that creates a team environment within the centre.
- Provide leadership and direction in the development and achievement of financial results and store budget objectives in the areas of sales, margins, expenses, profits, EHP, and inventory turns.
- Responsible for assisting centres in adhering to government regulations in the areas of price integrity, labeling, sanitation, and food and safety.
- Maintain customer service standards, tracking, monitoring, and follow-up of customer comments and complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provide leadership and direction while upholding confidentiality in the areas of employee relations, performance management, security, union contract compliance, administration of policy and procedures, and WCB claims.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Team Members, including overseeing onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
- Coordinate yearly performance work plans.
- Perform or assist with the year-end performance reviews and development action plans.
- Provide leadership in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), including participating in OH&S activities, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with OH&S policies, procedures, and legislation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Education.
- Two years of Calgary Co-op supervisory experience or three years of retail supervisory experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education.
- Three years of retail produce supervisory experience.
