About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Synthetic/Medicinal Chemist to join our team at Neuly, a biotechnology company dedicated to discovering and developing novel pharmaceuticals based on known psychedelic compounds.

The successful candidate will have expertise in designing and performing diverse organic compound and library syntheses, purifications, and analysis to advance drug discovery projects. This is an opportunity to contribute your ideas to early stage drug development, and have an impact in the development of novel psychedelic compounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to library synthesis, lead identification and optimization programs including structure-based and ligand-based drug design.
  • Apply medicinal chemistry principles and SAR principles to identify and optimize lead molecules.
  • Utilize modern synthetic strategies and computational techniques to design and execute the synthesis of target molecules and libraries.
  • Analyze reaction products to determine synthesized compounds.
  • Conduct purification of synthesized compounds using modern chromatographic techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in the R&D of novel Psychedelic medicines.
  • Research current literature to evaluate and implement new reactions, techniques and technologies to advance the projects.
About You

We are looking for a motivated and self-directed individual with a strong interest and willingness to learn about psychedelics. The ideal candidate will provide knowledge of organic and medical chemistry to contribute to the synthesis of new compounds destined for a variety of drug discovery projects.

Requirements
  • BS, MS or PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 10+ (BS), 7+ (MS) or 5+ (PhD) years' experience in drug discovery.
  • Strong knowledge of organic chemical reactions, mechanisms and the ability to plan and develop complex multi-step syntheses.
  • Fundamental understanding of ADME properties and how to address issues such as metabolic stability is essential.

This is a full-time position based at our office in Calgary, Alberta. We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, depending on experience. If you are passionate about advancing psychedelic medicine research, please submit your application.
