About the Role
The Fire Safety Consultant will play a critical role in ensuring Canadian Tire Corporation's fire prevention, preparedness, and emergency management practices meet or exceed industry standards. This position will work closely with operations teams to maintain up-to-date evacuation plans and continuously evaluate and improve preparedness.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement fire safety plans and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct fire code and building egress compliance reviews and audits to identify areas for improvement.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on fire safety best practices and procedures.
- Work with the internal training department to design and facilitate fire safety training programs.
- Monitor third-party inspections and ensure action plans are implemented to resolve any issues.
- Act as a subject matter expert on fire safety and life safety systems, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external emergency services and emergency management partners.
- Manage the Fire Safety Plan portfolio, including new plan reviews, annual reviews, and updates.
- Audit fire plan and life safety system maintenance conformance.
- Authorized approver for all life safety system modifications, including system shutdown and impairment.
- Conduct fire safety-related risk assessments and audits.
- On-call resource for all fire system events requiring escalation.
- Attend site meetings involving Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
- Investigate and analyze the cause of fire alarms and trouble events, and perform root cause and gap analysis.
Requirements
- 3+ years of work experience in producing fire safety plans and/or delivering fire safety consulting services.
- University/College degree or diploma related to Fire Protection and Fire Prevention.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or similar designation is required.
- Familiarity and formal training in emergency preparedness or like disciplines.
- Knowledge of fire protection and life safety, including familiarity with building/fire/life safety codes, standards, and best practices.
- Working knowledge of fire prevention, fire codes, building codes, and associated standards.
- Technically oriented, with good analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to complete tasks and projects in established timelines.
- Self-starter with high initiative and resourcefulness.
- High standards, accountability, and result-driven.
- Confident and able to speak to large groups and train others.
- Versatile and able to manage varying workloads and competing priorities.
- Experience working in industrial buildings and on technical engineering projects is an asset.
- Experience with Excel, MSWord, PowerPoint.
- Driver's license and vehicle required.
