Job Summary

The Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency is seeking a highly skilled and experienced District Director to lead the Metropolitan District. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong understanding of housing programs, operations, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of professional, technical, and administrative staff to achieve the goals of the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency.
  • Ensure a harmonious work environment in a unionized setting, while upholding corporate values and maintaining safety and compliance with policies.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to maximize the efficiency and longevity of housing stock, while delivering exceptional client service.
  • Make complex and sensitive decisions regarding staffing, financial resources, and service priorities, consulting with the Executive Director as needed for high-impact changes.
  • Ensure the district's housing operations meet high quality, safety, and affordability standards for low-income Nova Scotians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus several years of progressive management experience. Senior-level experience in property management and supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Experience overseeing the implementation of internal policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, expense control, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to build constructive and collaborative relationships with clients; staff; contractors; community groups; and other external organizations and union groups, focusing on fostering cooperative and collaborative working relationships and working effectively as a team leader in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve when faced with unique and complex situations that require a swift resolution while remaining cognizant of legislative requirements.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze and resolve problems with broad implications, and adapt and work effectively when confronted with an ever-changing environment and variety of situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in presentations and report writing.
  • Skilled in negotiation and dispute resolution is essential.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
