Job Title: Automation Systems Specialist

Job Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Automation Systems Specialist to join our team. As an Automation Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for constructing, integrating, and installing custom automation systems for the pharma and bio-pharma research industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electromechanical sub-assemblies for laboratory instruments
  • Construct system platforms, safety guarding, and containment enclosures
  • Integrate sophisticated laboratory instruments for accurate positioning and communication
  • Teach movers and multi-axis robots using our company's market-leading scheduling software
  • Validate all pick/place positions for smooth, efficient, and repeatable operation of the system
  • Support site acceptance testing and address any deficiencies cited
  • Develop technical solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Define and track job build tasks to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Solve automated robotic system issues
  • Manage workload within the team and adjust excesses/shortages as required
  • Participate in peer training among the operations team
  • Identify and record changes to Bills of Materials and Work Instructions
  • Identify part non-conformances and implement countermeasures
  • Contribute to documentation, record keeping, and reporting project status
  • Communicate feedback to the Operations and R&D teams to drive continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Technology diploma in Mechatronics, Electro-mechanical engineering, Electrical or Mechanical engineering, or related subject area
  • 3 years' automation integration experience with hands-on teaching & setup of robot arms

Preferred Skills:

  • Able to understand and follow mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with testing and measuring instruments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional presence with customers and internal departments
  • Strong organization, planning, and time leadership skills
  • Proficient software skills in Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Familiarity with ERP systems considered an asset
  • Flexible
  • Fluent English speaking and writing skills

Travel Requirements:

  • Valid Passport
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time domestically & internationally without restrictions
