Job Summary

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Animal Control Officer to join their Municipal Enforcement Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing effective animal control services and duties while representing the City in a fair, professional, and unbiased manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce the Domesticated Animal Control Bylaw and related regulations through proactive engagement with pet owners.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing and other requirements of the Bylaw.
  • Conduct investigations, inspections, and incident interviews as needed.
  • Respond quickly and make verbal and written reports in public or court settings.
  • Navigate standard computer software applications and maintain accurate records.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Valid Nunavut Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of by-laws and acts to be enforced.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Municipal, Territorial, and select Federal legislation.
  • Strong working knowledge of animals and animal behaviors.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including concise report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary Diploma or Certification in a related field.
  • Self-defense and conflict resolution training.
  • Knowledge of how to safely operate firearms, tranquilizer guns, and other equipment.
  • OC spray training and baton certification.
  • Fluency in Inuktitut is a definite asset.
