We are a private, family-owned real estate investment and management company with a head office in Vancouver and a diverse portfolio across North America.
In 1959, our founder Peter Young launched his first business, and in 1988 we acquired our first commercial property.
From those humble beginnings, Peterson has expanded over the years to invest in and manage a wide range of projects across North America.
Through strategic partnerships and long-lasting relationships, we have worked with our partners to bring iconic developments to life, such as the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver and the Shangri-La Hotels in Toronto and Vancouver.
We have a portfolio of over 5 million square feet of income-producing properties, more than 2,300 residential and hospitality units, and an additional 16.2 million square feet of future development projects.
We strive for greater communities, greater relationships, and greater results for all our stakeholders by engaging with purpose and placing relationships at the center of every collective opportunity we pursue.
We are seeking a contract full-time Director, Legal to join our legal team.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in real estate transactions, including development projects, acquisitions, dispositions, and loans, and will provide legal services in connection with corporate structures, partnerships, and other business operations.
This is a 12-month maternity leave contract.
The Director, Legal will be responsible for:
- Advising on and handling various legal matters with minimal direct supervision, including corporate, partnership, development, leasing, property management, lending, and litigation matters.
- Supporting the General Counsel on additional matters, with substantial direct supervision, as assigned.
- Ensuring the optimal success of Peterson in conducting its business operations and protecting the best interests of the company.
The position will work closely with the acquisition teams to manage transactions from due diligence to closing, assisting with negotiations and expediting resolutions in a win-win style to maintain and foster long-standing relationships and the reputation of the company.
The ideal candidate will have a legal degree and more than five (5) years of top-level experience with a focus on full-cycle real estate transactions.
They will also possess the technical and knowledge skills to direct and advise on all aspects of legal and corporate services for the company and all its affiliated and related entities.
The candidate will have experience working with external and internal tax advisors to develop and manage optimal organizational structures for a complex group of limited partnerships, corporations, and joint ventures involved in commercial rental properties and development projects.
We offer competitive pay and great benefits in an environment that embraces diversity and rewards innovation.
