Building Code Compliance Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Building Code Compliance Specialist to join our team at the City of Windsor. As a key member of our Inspection Services department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that buildings and properties in our city meet the required building codes and standards.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position that requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be responsible for inspecting buildings and properties to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other relevant regulations. Your expertise will help us maintain the safety and integrity of our built environment, protecting the health and well-being of our citizens.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and properties to identify potential code deficiencies and non-compliance issues;
- Review and analyze plans, specifications, and data sheets to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other relevant regulations;
- Communicate findings and recommendations to property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders;
- Collaborate with colleagues and external agencies to resolve code-related issues and address concerns;
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of inspections and findings;
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, combined with a Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification in the field of Plumbing and/or Sheet Metal Worker;
- Provincial Qualifications from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in General Legal/Process, H.V.A.C. House and Building Services, or Plumbing House and Plumbing All Buildings;
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE standards, HRAI Design Manuals, and NFPA standards;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to communicate complex information effectively;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team;
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with experience in a computerized office environment.
This position requires regular travel to off-site locations and may involve working in a variety of environments, including construction sites and residential areas. You must be physically able to lift up to 11 lbs and willing to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
