Job Title: Building Inspector

About the Role

The City of Windsor is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and structures in the city comply with the Ontario Building Code and other relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other regulations
  • Monitor construction and demolition activities to ensure compliance with approved plans and relevant legislation
  • Investigate complaints and enforce compliance with regulations
  • Provide instruction and guidance to contractors, architects, and engineers on building codes and regulations
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code
  • Verify existing site conditions and investigate complaints
  • Represent the City in civil litigation and provide evidence in court
  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports and reviews consultants' field reports
Qualifications
  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus 3 years of post-secondary education in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Provincial Qualifications from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in General Legal/CBO, House, HVAC, and Plumbing House
  • Valid Class 'G' Driver's License and access to a properly insured vehicle
  • Experience and education in building design and installation, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • Experience in a computerized office environment and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and other related standards
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
  • Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
