Product Development Engineer

At Lonza, we are seeking a talented Product Development Engineer to join our team in Kingston, ON. As a Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for driving continuous improvements in our Cocoon product line. This will involve ensuring the mechanical design for the Cocoon can be sustained for manufacture and distribution within regulated markets, and that field defects are investigated and addressed at the design-level.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline, such as Systems, Mechanical, Biomedical or similar path of study. A Master's degree is preferred. The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience with leading product design in a regulated industry, with a focus on medical device or product design/manufacture. The candidate should also have an in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, injection molding, and 3D printing.
The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for:
- Improving product quality and reliability, manufacturing efficiency and production yields through product design modification
- Investigating product complaints and non-conformances, performing root cause analysis of failures, and proposing corrective actions in a timely fashion
- Reviewing existing product designs, identifying weaknesses, proposing and implementing improvements
- Leading collaborative and complex design updates and implementations of corrective actions and backlog features related to product design within a cross-functional team
- Creating strategy for the verification of corrective designs, and participating in verification activities
- Generating and reviewing technical documentation, including investigative pursuits, conceptual design, mechanical drawings, and technical reports, all within a ISO 13485 Quality Management System
- Applying a risk-based approach to product design activities using xFMEA methodology
