Key Requirements

Professional Engineer Registration

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is mandatory.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in civil and/or municipal engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Experience as a Professional Engineer in an engineering role working with water, sewer, and/or stormwater infrastructure is essential.
  • Experience with capacity assessment, growth planning, infrastructure servicing, and funding, as well as the development approvals process, is necessary.
  • Hydraulic modeling, studies, and infrastructure planning experience is required.
  • Proficiency in software pertinent to the job function, including Geographical Information System (GIS), and modeling software such as Infoworks and/or Infowater or equivalent, is necessary.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills to write technical reports, briefing notes, reports to Committee and Council, and responses to inquiries by external agencies and the public are required.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process, especially related to Master Planning, and Feasibility Studies, is essential.
  • Fundamental knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, policies, and guidelines related to the job, such as the Occupation Health & Safety Act, is necessary.
  • Project and stakeholder management skills to plan, lead, manage, and implement multidisciplinary projects of varied scope are required.
  • Competencies including interpersonal, conflict resolution, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and to forge solid internal and external relationships, are necessary.
  • Possession of, and ability to maintain, a valid Province of Ontario class "G" driver's licence and eligibility to qualify for a City driver's permit is an asset for this position.

A Qualified List of candidates will be established for the Engineer position in the Toronto Water Division and will be in effect for up to two years from the date the list is created. Qualified candidates on the list may be considered when filling future permanent and/or temporary vacancies in this position.
