Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Loss Control Specialist to join our team at Verisk. As a Loss Control Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing residential properties to identify potential risks and hazards. Your expertise will help us provide valuable insights to insurance companies, enabling them to make informed decisions and reduce the frequency and severity of losses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule appointments with clients to conduct on-site assessments of residential properties.
  • Travel to properties, tour, and assess for risk features, taking photographs, measuring rooms, and reviewing fire prevention systems, heating equipment, and fuel storage tanks.
  • Assess building construction, electrical, heating systems, and plumbing installations to ensure proper installation and code compliance.
  • Identify and report on structural defects, fire hazards, and other threats to safety.
  • Converse with property owners to understand the history of the property, any risks, and answer any questions they may have.
  • Prepare detailed reports using our internal systems, identifying fundamental construction and equipment details, risk assessment, and replacement cost value.

Accountabilities
  • Reports have no errors or omissions and provide accurate details of assessment results.
  • Contribute to the team's overall revenue goals.
  • Continually expand your expertise to assess more complex properties.
Qualifications
  • Education in insurance, construction, home inspections, real estate appraisals, or engineering will provide a solid technical foundation to recognize and identify construction and equipment details.
  • Experience with building codes, residential construction, building restoration, or as a home inspector is required.
  • Experience with sketch programs such as Rapid Sketch and Apex is an asset.
  • Experience as an underwriting assessor or in the insurance field is preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, including using a database, typing speed and accuracy, use of short-cuts, and word processing, are essential to efficiently and effectively creating reports.
  • Must be bilingual, English and French.
Environment/Work Conditions
  • Ability to work autonomously and remotely, with most work completed from home.
  • Extensive travel is involved within a region, requiring a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle (50%). National runs at least once per year.
