Job Summary

The University of Guelph is seeking a skilled and experienced Global Pre-Arrival Support Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Student Experience department, you will play a vital role in supporting the success of our international students.

Key Responsibilities

Provide expert support to new incoming international students and their families, ensuring a smooth transition to university life.
Collaborate with the GPS Coordinators to develop and implement effective support strategies.
Act as a central point of contact for international students, addressing their queries and concerns.
Provide personalized advising and group information sessions on immigration status and study permit applications.
Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless support services.
Formulate policy recommendations to address current and potential issues related to international student immigration.
Utilize customer relationship management practices and FIPPA regulations to maintain accurate student records.
Bring a thorough understanding of international education and student support services to the role, combining business development skills with personalized care and dedication to student success.

Requirements

An undergraduate degree in international relations or development, education, business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in international student services.
Qualification as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) is required.
Excellent human relations and advising skills, with the ability to empathize and communicate effectively in an intercultural setting.
An understanding of the complexity of society structures, political dynamics, economics, cultural norms, and customs of international students.
Proven ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of student data and records.
Experience with CRM and student enrolment databases.
Proven ability to assess needs and design, implement, and evaluate programs and services.
A strong aptitude in written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft 365 skills.
A thorough understanding of the University of Guelph's academic programs and student support services is preferred.
