About the Role:

The Lead FX at Reel FX Creative Studios plays a pivotal role in managing sequences and overseeing the artists assigned to those sequences. As a key member of the leadership team, they contribute significantly to defining the quality and style of the show, working closely with the Effects Supervisor to achieve creative goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Train new hires in department standards, workflow, and techniques.
  • Guide and mentor artists in advancing their work towards asset/shot approval.
  • Work well with team members in an advisory role and provide guidance on processes and troubleshooting.
  • Follow the artist's work to ensure they address notes, respect briefs, and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Pipeline team to resolve any issues.
  • Communicate with the supervisor about any issues or potential problems.
  • Simulate natural phenomena using direct and procedural animation techniques.
  • Follow quality control with the team.
  • Create and compose 3D effects elements.
  • Develop animation timing for effects.
  • Work with the production team to create the desired look for the effect.

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years production experience in film or television effects.
  • Thorough knowledge of 3D effects and simulation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Houdini.
  • Compositing experience is a plus.
  • Experience programming Vex is a plus.
  • Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
  • Able to follow directions well.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Able to thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Enjoy working in teams.
