Job Summary:

The Lead FX Artist plays a pivotal role within the show, responsible for managing sequences and overseeing the artists assigned to those sequences. Key to defining the quality and style of the show, they collaborate closely with the Effects Supervisor to achieve creative goals, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with the pipeline team to address and resolve pipeline issues.

Responsibilities:

• Train new hires in department standards, workflow, and techniques.

• Mentor artists in advancing their work towards asset/shot approval.

• Work well with team members in an advisory role, showing them processes and troubleshooting.

• Monitor and address artist work to ensure note implementation, brief adherence, and deadlines.

• Assist the supervisor in designing and improving the workflow.

• Collaborate with the Pipeline team to resolve issues.

• Communicate with the supervisor about any issues or potential problems.

• Apply direct and procedural animation techniques to simulate natural phenomena and create various effects.

• Participate in quality control with the team.

• Create and compose 3D effects elements.

• Develop and communicate animation timing for effects.

• Work with the production team to achieve the desired effect look.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience.

• A minimum of 4 years of production experience in film or television effects.

• Thorough knowledge of 3D effects and simulation techniques.

• Working knowledge of Houdini.

• Compositing experience is a plus.

• Experience with Vex programming is a plus.

• Ability to communicate creative and technical ideas.

• Ability to follow directions.

• Ability to multitask and prioritize.

• Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
