The Health Records Technician reports to the Manager ADT, Health Records and Privacy Officer. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and organizing patient health records to support clinical care and releasing personal health information in accordance with legislation while ensuring valid consent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process requests for inpatient, resident, and outpatient health records from internal and external sources within prescribed timeframes.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed Release of Information logs for medical, legal, insurance, WSIB, and other PHI requests.
  • Perform various clerical and office tasks as needed.
  • Produce medical reports, correspondence, records, client-care information, statistics, medical research, and administrative material as required.
  • Maintain, organize, and process clinical information to support clinical care.
  • Scan, upload, and verify health information for the EMR (e.g., PCC).
  • Assist with quality and/or privacy activities, including audits.
  • Adhere to infection control practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Requirements
  • A Completion of an accredited program for Health Information Management and certification as a member in good standing with the Canadian College of Health Information Management.
  • Familiarity and understanding of Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and other healthcare-related legislation.
  • Experience working with Meditech and Point Click Care is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe, and computer skills is required.
