About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Security Architect to join our team in Canada. This full-time role reports directly to our General Counsel and offers a competitive salary of $120,000 per year. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping our global information security vision, strategy, and compliance by coordinating internal and external audits and translating regulatory requirements into actionable security controls.

  • Conduct a thorough assessment of our current compliance and information security suite, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to enhance incident management, technical risk mitigation, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Familiarize yourself with our control sets, frameworks, and requirements to ensure seamless integration with our existing infrastructure.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise to maintain, configure, install, monitor, and support our IT systems and networks, adhering to industry security standards.
  • Work closely with our business development and supply teams to coordinate due diligence, information security, and regulatory compliance reviews from current and prospective customers and data suppliers.
  • Lead and manage a team of IT security professionals, guiding them in the effective execution of security initiatives and ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
  • Be a key stakeholder in information security, driving critical initiatives that promote program maturity and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities Within the First Quarter
  • Deploy, monitor, maintain, develop, document, and support high-quality, reliable IT systems and networks using industry security standards, incorporating practical security operations.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise to maintain, configure, install, monitor, and support the Nova Credit team.
  • Work closely with our business development and supply teams to coordinate the incoming due diligence, information security, and other regulatory compliance reviews from current and prospective customers and outgoing reviews of data suppliers, including credit bureaus.
  • Lead and manage a team of IT security professionals, providing guidance, development, and support to ensure the effective execution of security initiatives.
  • Be a key stakeholder in information security, driving critical initiatives to our customers and program maturity.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and vulnerability tests to identify potential security threats and develop mitigation strategies.
Responsibilities Within the First Year
  • Develop and implement the organization's IT security strategy, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead the development of a roadmap to enhance our information security and compliance operations.
  • Work closely with our compliance program management software and auditors to drive continuous improvement of our compliance program.
Your Skillset

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Over 8 years of experience in compliance or information security roles, preferably in financial services, fintech, startups, consulting, or relevant fields.
  • Strong expertise in managing information security programs and risk management, including experience with industry-recognized frameworks and regulations.
  • Professional certifications in security management, such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA.
  • Proficiency in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards, including GDPR, NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
  • An agile, responsive, and positive approach to managing shifting priorities.
  • A deep understanding of security risks, threats, and the latest industry trends and technologies to keep IT security operations current and effective.
  • A track record in developing and implementing security awareness programs to educate employees about best practices and foster a strong security culture within the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey security and risk-related concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The ability to work independently and manage and develop a team.
