Food Program Assistant

Family Services of Greater Vancouver is seeking a skilled Food Program Assistant to join our team at Directions Youth Services. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will play a vital role in providing nutritious meals and snacks to our youth clients.
Key Responsibilities- Operate the kitchen, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for food preparation and service.
- Support kitchen volunteers and manage food donations to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Develop and implement nutritious menu plans, taking into account dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Build positive relationships with youth clients, providing a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and report concerns to the Kitchen Supervisor.
- Oversee the sorting and storing of food donations, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Deliver the Pantry Program, providing free groceries to our youth clients.
- Take a leadership role in managing emergency and crisis situations, employing non-violent crisis prevention and intervention strategies.
- Grade 12, plus one-year post-secondary education.
- Food Safe certificate.
- Current First Aid Certificate and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset.
- Two-years of related experience in a commercial or community kitchen.
- One-year experience working with youth, preferably in support of youth who use substances, face mental health challenges, and/or are unhoused.
- Flexible scheduling.
- A work culture that values transparency, teamwork, learning, fairness, and integrity.
- Pension plan enrollment for eligible employees.
- GS 6 step 1- $21.84/hour.
