Job Title: Care Support Assistant - Temp Part Time

AVI Health & Community Services is a multi-disciplinary community-based organization providing HIV, hepatitis C, and harm reduction services across Vancouver Island. We are seeking a part-time Care Support Assistant to join our team.

About the Role

The Care Support Assistant will provide direct services to individuals living with HIV and/or hepatitis C, using a harm reduction model. This includes:

  • Engaging with individuals who are living with, or at risk for, HIV/Hepatitis C, using a collaborative, person-centered approach grounded in harm reduction.
  • Using brief assessment, crisis response, and counseling skills to help meet immediate, basic needs and make appropriate referrals to other health and support services.
  • Advocating on behalf of clients with various Ministries and agencies to ensure clients receive maximum information and support.
  • Working with clients on issues such as housing, medical, legal, and other support agencies.
  • Providing testing information, education, and referrals to clients both onsite and during outreach activities.
  • Providing onsite supervision and support to service users.
  • Supporting and referring individuals who have survived overdose(s), including Opiate Agonist Treatment (OAT) and other resources.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A diploma in health or social services (Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health & Addictions Support Worker, etc.).
  • A minimum of two years' relevant work experience, including direct service delivery and advocacy experience with community-based and provincial support services and systems.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle to drive clients.
  • The ability to respectfully engage and support Indigenous relationships, with a trauma-informed and decolonial lens.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport, provide support, and advocate for a diverse range of clientele.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social justice, health promotion, and public health approaches and models of social support and health care.
