Job Title: Library Technician II

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Library Technician II to join our team at Parkland School Division. As a key member of our learning commons team, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the library, including circulation, ordering, and collection of materials and resources.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to promote a love of reading, grow communication skills, and resource the library with books and other learning materials.
  • Provide nutrition program coordination and support to students in a school setting.
  • Supervise students in the library and other learning spaces, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
  • Assist students with research, literacy, and learning in a digital/technology-based and print-rich environment.
  • Classify and catalog new materials, assigning numbers, levels, subjects, and other relevant information.
  • Prepare materials and resources for activities programmed and planned by, or in collaboration with, classroom teachers.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Information and Library Technology Diploma or equivalent is an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience working with children in a school environment is an asset.
  • Experience with Destiny, Discovery Education, Google Apps, and technology hardware would be an asset.
Working Conditions:

Library Technicians work indoors, except when supervising children outdoors or going on field trips as needed. They may have the same holiday schedule as teachers, including a long summer break and winter and spring breaks. However, they work on a ten-month contract basis and are not paid during the summer months.

This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.

This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 5543.

Hours of Work: 31.25 hours/week (Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 3:45 PM)

Pay Rate: $23.40/hr - $26.35/hr (Pay Group 3)
