Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse - Forensic Secure Unit

About the Role:

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Practical Nurse to work in the Forensic Secure Unit A (FSUA). As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care, ensuring the security and safety of the client care environment. You will practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards and CAMH Policies and Practice Model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional plans of client care for clients with mental illness and under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB).
  • Collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate client care plans.
  • Work with patients from diverse backgrounds, contribute to program development, and provide education support and supervision to students.
  • Liaise with other services in the Forensic Division and community agencies to coordinate care for clients.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk management plans and ensure compliance with the ORB disposition.
  • Participate in the preparation of ORB reports and implement the unit's risk management processes.

Requirements:

  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
  • Medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the prevention and management of disturbed behavior.
  • Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions.
  • Understanding of how to develop and implement forensic risk assessment plans and a fundamental understanding of the forensic legal and health systems.
  • Self-directed team player with high organizational skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
